Saturday, October 4 | 4–8 PM | The Art Park – Downtown Colfax

FREE STREET CONCERT | ALL AGES | LIVE LOCAL MUSIC

🔥 Meet This Year’s Headliners

🎸 Steel Horse Stampede – High-Octane Country Rock

Led by Johnny D, a Nashville Star Top 10 finalist, Steel Horse Stampede is rolling into Colfax with a sound that hits hard, grooves deep, and fills the street with electric energy.

Johnny D has performed alongside some of country’s biggest names — Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Tracy Byrd — and now he’s bringing that same arena-worthy sound to the heart of downtown Colfax.

With gritty guitars, soaring vocals, and crowd-moving anthems, Steel Horse Stampede fuses classic country vibes with southern rock swagger. Think The Eagles, 38 Special, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, but with a modern kick that’s made for dancing in the street.

🎤 Special Guest: Michael James Cox

There’s no place like home — and Michael James Cox is coming back to the very town that raised him.

Michael blends outlaw country, blues, and dusty Americana rock into a style that’s real, raw, and impossible to fake. He’s not just a singer. He’s a storyteller — and his voice? It’ll stop you in your tracks.

Raised on local dirt roads and small-town stories, Michael’s set will feel less like a performance and more like a homecoming celebration — wrapped in soul, stories, and songs that cut deep and stay with you.

🎶 If you love: Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson, or Cody Jinks — don’t miss this.

Colfax, CA Makes Top 50 Finalist Round for Levitt AMP Music Series Grant — And Shows How Small Towns Dream Big

Colfax, CA — take a bow. Our town of just 2,200 has done something extraordinary: we’ve kept pace with cities 100 times our size and officially earned a spot as a Top 50 finalist in the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant competition. That means we’re one step closer to bringing a multi-year, free outdoor concert series to the heart of downtown Colfax.

After making it into the Top 100 and rallying votes during the national public voting round, Colfax has advanced to the final selection stage. On November 18, 2025, the Levitt Foundation will award matching grants to 15 communities across the country, each one empowered to launch a family-friendly, inclusive, and vibrant music series that breathes life into underused public spaces.

Before the final announcement, we’re taking a moment to celebrate how we got here — and why Colfax is more ready than ever to turn this momentum into a three-year tradition of music, community, and Main Street magic.

How We Got Here (Fast)

A concert — built in weeks

With only a short runway, we produced a four‑artist “Rock the Vote” concert at The Art Park in Colfax, CA, complete with professional sound, lighting, and vote‑help announcements. The lineup:

  • Aly Gerlach — Local talent with a massive voice who opened with the National Anthem
  • Michael James Cox — Colfax‑born outlaw country + Sierra soul
  • The Breakovers — Sierra‑soaked folk/bluegrass/Americana harmonies
  • Jennifer Belle — Country powerhouse, Josie Music Awards–nominated
  • Tyler Edwards — A former frontman of Billboard-charting I Anthem—delivers cinematic Americana/rock

The result? A packed lawn, kids dancing, neighbors reconnecting, local vendors humming — downtown Colfax alive.

Community everywhere you looked

As part of our Rock the Vote campaign—which featured a multi-artist concert and a city- and county-wide outreach push—we delivered the following:

  • Branded merchandise — Our “Rock the Vote” T-shirts – did double duty: it turned supporters into walking billboards that sparked conversations on every block and raised $1,600+ in just a couple of weeks. Those dollars helped us book professional-caliber talent, proving we can deliver top-tier shows in Colfax.
  • Business partnerships: Local Colfax businesses like The Colfax Bistro, Snapdragon Provisions, The Wrecking Crew, Main Street Pizza, Tj’s Restaurant, The Red Frog, Colfax Smog & Auto, the Colfax Visitors Center, Colfax Railroad Heritage Museum, and Marvel Sierra Market hosted info stands, QR codes, posters, handouts explaining how and when to vote.
  • Public presence: outreach booths at community events, a billboard on I‑80, and a rally at the Colfax High School football game kept the message in front of families and commuters.
  • Social media blitz: posts, Stories, Reels, and shareables flooded local and regional feeds with reminders, countdowns, and calls to action on our Visit Historic Colfax platform.
  • Inclusive access: when our website lagged, we emphasized text‑to‑vote so no one was left out by tech hiccups.

Partners who made it possible

How Colfax, CA Meets the Levitt Foundation Key Factors

Projected Impact on Community & Public Space

A Levitt AMP Music Series Grant would be transformative for Colfax, CA — not just in sound, but in spirit. If awarded, this grant would fund 7–10 free outdoor concerts each summer for three consecutive years, creating a consistent, high-quality event series that turns warm evenings into community celebrations.

Our proposed venue? Depot Park — the grassy, tree-lined area next to the historic Colfax train station. This space is already beloved by locals but underutilized for large-scale programming. With Levitt’s support, we envision it coming alive with families on picnic blankets, kids dancing near the stage, and neighbors reconnecting under string lights and stars. It’s walkable, accessible, centrally located next to public parking and ADA bathrooms, and steeped in the character that makes Colfax unique.

Beyond the music, the ripple effects are substantial. These events would:

  • Activate underused public space and give residents a reason to gather consistently.
  • Support small businesses, with increased foot traffic for local shops, restaurants, and lodging.
  • Boost civic pride, drawing visitors from across Placer County and giving locals something big to look forward to.
  • Strengthen Colfax’s identity as a creative, inclusive, and culturally vibrant town.

Depot Park is more than a space — it’s a stage for community revival. And with Levitt’s help, we’re ready to turn it into a musical heartbeat for downtown Colfax.

Feasibility of Implementation (Matching Funds & Logistics)

When it comes to delivering high-quality live events, Colfax, CA has already proven its capacity to execute — quickly, safely, and professionally. Our “Rock the Vote” concert at The Art Park was built from the ground up in just a matter of weeks, showcasing what’s possible when our city, partners, and volunteers come together with a shared mission.

From booking artists and coordinating stage production, to securing professional lighting, sound, site ops, and security, the entire event was run with the kind of precision and community spirit that Levitt expects from grantees. And it didn’t just run smoothly — it felt like a festival, with energy, excitement, and purpose pulsing through the crowd.

But logistics are only one piece. The other is matching funds — and Colfax is ready there, too.

  • Over $1,600 raised in merchandise sales alone in just days — a strong sign of early grassroots buy-in.
  • Multiple local organizations and small businesses have already pledged sponsorships to help meet our matching fund requirements.
  • The City of Colfax, the Soroptimists, and the Colfax Chamber of Commerce are all on board, offering both in-kind and logistical support.
  • Volunteer crews are committed and growing, drawing from local civic groups, youth programs, and residents passionate about music and community.

We’re not starting from scratch. We’re building on momentum — with clear operational capacity, a growing base of supporters, and a financial path already taking shape. Colfax isn’t just ready to host a Levitt AMP Music Series — we’ve already started.

Programming philosophy (diverse, inclusive, family‑friendly)

Our roster blended local roots (Michael James Cox, Aly Gerlach) with regional and national acts (The Breakovers, Jennifer Belle, Tyler Edwards), spanning outlaw country, folk/bluegrass/Americana, and modern country—family‑friendly by design. It’s so important to us that we introduce Colfax to all types of music!

Why the Levitt Foundation Should Choose Colfax, CA

Awarding the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant to Colfax, California would be transformational. Here’s why this investment matters — and why Colfax is the perfect fit for Levitt’s mission.

1. Colfax Is Ready — We Just Need the Resources
Colfax may be small, but we’ve proven we can move fast and work together. Without a full-time events team or a big-city budget, we successfully produced a professionally run, multi-artist concert that brought our town together in a matter of weeks. We’ve shown that when given a reason, this community shows up — and shows out. What we lack in funding, we more than make up for in grit, heart, and hustle. A Levitt AMP Music Series Grant would provide the structure and support we need to turn this spark into a sustainable, long-term tradition.

2. It Would Revitalize Our Historic Downtown
The series would activate Depot Park, a green, walkable space in the heart of Colfax. Located next to the train station and blocks from from I-80, it’s the ideal venue to transform into a lively cultural hub that boosts downtown businesses and tourism.

3. Colfax Embodies Levitt’s Core Values
We’re a small town with deep roots and a big heart — a place where people still show up for one another. The Levitt series would amplify our unique identity, foster belonging, and make live music accessible to everyone.

4. This Grant Would Spark Long-Term Change
This isn’t just about concerts — it’s about civic renewal. The Levitt series would reconnect neighbors, reenergize Main Street, and give residents and visitors a reason to come downtown again and again.

5. We Serve a Much Larger Region
Colfax is surrounded by small rural towns that lack access to free, high-quality music. We can be the cultural connector for the Sierra Foothills — offering inclusive, family-friendly events that serve far beyond our city limits.

This grant would change the trajectory of Main Street Colfax. Not just for a season — but for a generation. We’re ready to make it happen. All we need is the spotlight.

What’s Next while we wait for the Levitt Foundation’s Decision

Long before we knew we had secured a spot in the Top 100 — let alone advanced to the Top 50 finalists — simply applying for the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant sparked something powerful in Colfax, CA. It inspired a collective mindset shift: Why wait?

So we didn’t. We began bringing more music to downtown Colfax right away.

That spirit continues with the Pints & Grooves event (formerly Oktoberfest) on October 4, 2025, a celebration featuring live music, local brews, food vendors, and family-friendly fun right in the heart of historic downtown Colfax. It’s another example of our commitment to cultural vibrancy, regardless of the grant outcome — but it’s also a taste of what’s possible with Levitt’s support.

Thank You, Colfax, CA — Let’s Keep the Music Going

To every single person who voted, shared, performed, volunteered, donated, hosted, staffed, or simply showed up — your support made this possible. Together, we showed that a town as small as Colfax, CA can rise to the national stage, proving that community spirit and creativity don’t depend on population size.

We didn’t just apply for the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant — we rallied for it. We dreamed big, came together fast, and put Colfax on the map in a way that reflects who we truly are: a small town with a massive heart and deep love for live music.

This isn’t the finish line — it’s the first verse of something bigger. No matter what happens on November 18, we’ve already created momentum. We’ve reawakened downtown. We’ve reminded ourselves what it feels like to gather, celebrate, and dance under the stars.

Music belongs in Colfax, CA. And we’re ready to make it a Main Street tradition for years to come.🎶💛

Colfax in the Running for a National Music Grant – Your Vote Can Make the Difference

Saturday night, downtown Colfax came alive. Main Street was filled with music, neighbors, and a sense of pride that only a small town can create. Hosted by the Historic Colfax Downtown Association, the Rock the Vote Concert wasn’t just a great night out—it was proof that when Colfax comes together, amazing things happen. The community’s effort is part of the Levitt Grant Colfax initiative.

But now comes the part where we need every single person to step up.

Why This Matters

Colfax is competing for the Levitt AMP Grant, a national program that could bring 7–10 free professional concerts to Colfax every summer for the next three years. That’s not just music—it’s economic development, tourism, and a chance to put Colfax back on the map as a cultural destination with the Levitt Grant Colfax opportunity.

Out of hundreds of cities across the country, Colfax has already made it into the Top 100. That’s a big accomplishment for our little town! As of today, we are sitting at #27 for the AMP Grant and #44 overall. But to secure this grant, we must make it into the Top 50 during the public voting round.

This is where you come in to support the Levitt Grant Colfax effort.

How to Vote

Voting is open now through September 15 at 5:00 PM PT and it only takes about 30 seconds.

Every single vote counts. In fact, one share, one tag, or one text could be the difference between Colfax winning or losing this once-in-a-generation opportunity.

Why Colfax Deserves This

Colfax isn’t just another small town—it’s a place built on grit, history, and community. From our Gold Rush roots to being a vital stop on the Transcontinental Railroad, Colfax has always played a bigger role than its size suggests, especially with the Levitt Grant Colfax opportunity on the horizon.

Bringing the Levitt concert series here would mean:

  • Families gathering downtown all summer long.
  • Local businesses thriving from increased foot traffic.
  • Colfax finally getting the recognition it deserves as a destination for music and culture.

Together, We Can Do This

We’ve already shown what’s possible when our town comes together. The Rock the Vote Concert proved that Colfax has the energy, the heart, and the passion to dream big. Now let’s take the next step and secure the Levitt Grant Colfax designation.

Vote. Share. Tag your friends. Tell your neighbors. Wear your Rock the Vote shirts with pride.

Because when Colfax shows up, we win.

Rock the Vote Colfax concert at Art Park downtown Colfax CA

Rock the Vote Colfax – A Free Concert With Big Dreams for Our Small Town

If you’ve ever believed that music could move mountains—or at least bring a small town into the national spotlight—then you’ll want to mark your calendar for Saturday, September 6th. On that day, the small but mighty town of Colfax, CA, will host an event that promises to do more than entertain—it aims to transform. The Rock the Vote Concert, an effort of the Historic Colfax Downtown Association, isn’t just a free concert—it’s a rally cry, a celebration, and a bold step toward securing a place for Colfax on the national music map.

Set against the charming backdrop of Colfax’s Art Park at 20 South Main Street, the event will run from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, although if you know how we do things here, you might want to show up a bit early to soak in the pre-show vibes. You’ll find live music, delicious local eats, beer & wine garden, and most importantly, your neighbors. The people who make this town feel like home.

But this isn’t just about having a great time—though trust us, you will. It’s about showing the Levitt Foundation that Colfax has the heart, the hustle, and the hunger for live music. We’re one of only three cities in California to make it into the top 100 finalists for the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant, and your presence could be the deciding factor that brings $120,000 in matching funds to our town.

Imagine 7–10 professional, free concerts every year for the next three years. Imagine Main Street filled with music, laughter, and new faces discovering what we’ve always known—Colfax is a hidden gem. That dream starts here, with you. So grab your friends, bring your energy, and let’s Rock the Vote, Colfax-style.

A Small Town with a Big Vision

Why This Concert Is More Than Just Music

Sure, music is at the center of this event—but the vision is so much bigger. Rock the Vote Colfax represents an opportunity for this town to shine on a national stage. When people think of vibrant music scenes, they might not immediately think of Colfax—but we’re about to change that. This event is proof that small towns can dream big—and deliver.

This isn’t just a concert. It’s a strategic move. By gathering a massive crowd, generating buzz on social media, and engaging the local community, Colfax is sending a message to the Levitt Foundation: We’re ready. Ready to host world-class performers, ready to turn our historic downtown into a cultural destination, and ready to elevate our local economy with tourism and entertainment.

Colfax has always been rich in community pride, but this concert proves that pride can turn into action. Music is one of the few things that universally unites people. It breaks down barriers, builds relationships, and creates memories. And when that happens in our own backyard, it changes how we see ourselves—and how others see us.

The real win here isn’t just the grant (though that would be incredible). It’s the energy, the excitement, and the sense of possibility this event sparks. It’s about giving local artists a stage, families a place to gather, and visitors a reason to return. This concert is our chance to say: Colfax matters. We have stories to tell, songs to sing, and a community worth celebrating.

The Heart of the Event – Music, Community, and Colfax Pride

An Unforgettable Lineup of Talent

If there’s one thing you’ll walk away from Rock the Vote Colfax saying, it’s “Wow, that lineup!” We’ve pulled together an incredible mix of local heroes, regional favorites, and national names to bring a full-spectrum music experience to our downtown park.

Headlining the event is Tyler Edwards, an artist whose blend of heartfelt Americana and indie-folk storytelling has landed him on the Billboard Rock Charts. His voice carries the kind of raw, emotional power that sticks with you, and his songs feel like the soundtrack to a road trip through the Sierra foothills.

Then there’s Jennifer Belle, a breakout country artist who’s making waves on the national scene. With multiple Josie Music Award nominations, a #1 CMC-USA chart hit, and past performances alongside Big & Rich, Easton Corbin, and Parmalee, she’s no stranger to big stages—but she’s excited to bring her star power to a small town stage.

Rounding out the lineup is a showcase of Sierra talent:

  • The Breakovers, known for their stunning harmonies and high-energy bluegrass-Americana style.
  • Michael James Cox, Colfax’s own homegrown star whose music blends outlaw country with Sierra soul, making every lyric feel personal and real.
  • And Ally Gerlach, opening the night with a soulful rendition of the National Anthem, kicking things off with pride and power.

Each artist brings something different—but together, they tell a story: Colfax is rising. This isn’t just a show—it’s a soundtrack for a movement.

We’ve made it this far by believing in ourselves—and now we’re just one final push away from securing something that could change the future of our town. Imagine summers filled with music, families enjoying evenings downtown, local businesses thriving from the increased foot traffic, and Colfax finally getting the recognition it deserves as a destination for music and culture.

This is our moment, Colfax.

So let’s come together, pack the park, wear our shirts with pride, and show the Levitt Foundation—and the world—that we’re ready to rock, ready to rise, and ready to bring something extraordinary to our small but mighty town.

Congressman Kevin Kiley walking Main Street in historic Colfax, California

Congressman Kevin Kiley Visits Colfax’s Historic Main Street

Small towns across America are experiencing a renewed focus on revitalization, and Colfax, California, is no exception. This past week, the Historic Colfax Downtown Association, working alongside the Colfax Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Sean Lomen, welcomed Congressman Kevin Kiley for a walking tour of Colfax’s historic Main Street. Congressman Kevin Kiley’s visit was more than a routine stop—it was a recognition of the ongoing efforts to preserve the town’s unique heritage while breathing new life into its economy.

Too often, small towns are overshadowed by larger cities when it comes to federal attention, resources, and recognition. Kiley’s presence signaled that Colfax, with its deep Gold Rush history and railroad roots, is being seen, valued, and supported. The Congressman didn’t just meet with officials; he walked the streets, talked to business owners, and listened to the challenges and successes of those investing in the heart of the community.

This kind of visit brings more than symbolism—it has the potential to unlock resources and foster partnerships that can accelerate Colfax’s growth. For a town like Colfax, where preservation and progress must work hand-in-hand, the timing couldn’t be more important.

Spotlight on the Colfax Hotel Project

The tour began at the long-vacant Colfax Hotel, a cornerstone of Main Street that has been empty for over 40 years. Owners Leif and Wendy Lowery, already known for restoring the Dutch Flat Hotel and running Miners Camp in Foresthill, are now breathing new life into this long-awaited project.

Working with Mayor Sean Lomen, City Council, and the City of Colfax, the Lowreys expect permits soon and aim to complete renovations within a year. Their plans include hotel rooms, short-term rentals, and a ground-floor restaurant. They’ve gone the extra mile to preserve authenticity—even retrieving original hotel doors they discovered through a Facebook Marketplace listing.

The Historic Colfax Downtown Association is backing the project, with our board member Gretchen Hilyard Boyce of Groundwork Preservation attended the walk-through and provided information on federal tax credits and preservation grants.

Main Street Businesses in the Spotlight

As part of the tour, Congressman Kiley visited several Main Street businesses that showcase Colfax’s entrepreneurial spirit:

  • Colfax Farm & Country Store – A community fixture for nearly 20 years.
  • Snapdragon Provisions – A fresh, organic, and vegan-friendly restaurant opened by Kallie and her wife Taylor after falling in love with Colfax.
  • The Wrecking Crew Café – Run by longtime resident Caroline, who has lived in Colfax for over 30 years.
  • Colfax Market – Operated by Paul, who also owns two Main Street buildings.
  • Coco’s Candy & Creamery – A new arrival to Colfax with an already successful location in Grass Valley.

Each business reflects resilience and creativity, reinforcing Main Street as the heart of the Colfax Downtown community.

The Role of Music and Culture in Revitalization

Revitalization isn’t just about buildings—it’s about creating spaces where people come together. That’s why the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant is such an exciting opportunity for Colfax, CA.

The Historic Colfax Downtown Association applied for this national grant, and Colfax has already beaten out hundreds of cities to make the Top 100 finalists. If selected, it will bring 7–10 free outdoor concerts a year for the next three years, supported by up to $120,000 in matching funds.

What makes this even more powerful is that it would allow us to activate Depot Park—an underutilized space directly in front of the historic Colfax Hotel. With professional staging, lighting, and touring bands alongside local talent, Colfax could host world-class concerts in the heart of downtown.

We shared with Congressman Kiley about making it to the final public voting (Sept. 5–15), and to build excitement, we’re hosting a Rock The Vote Kickoff Concert on Sept. 6 at the Art Park on South Main Street.

Congressman Kevin Kiley has pledged his support to rally behind Colfax in this effort, recognizing that music and culture are key to both economic renewal and community pride. With his backing—and strong community engagement—Colfax has a real chance to turn its historic downtown into a vibrant hub of music and culture. What an opportunity the Levitt Grant Foundation has provided Colfax!

Looking Ahead for Colfax

Congressman Kiley’s visit made it clear that Colfax’s story is worth telling—and worth investing in. From the long-awaited revival of the Colfax Hotel to the growth of Main Street businesses and the exciting opportunity presented by the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant, Colfax is proving that small towns can think big.

The future is about more than preserving historic buildings—it’s about creating a vibrant downtown where history, culture, and community all come together. Projects like the hotel restoration, concerts at Depot Park, and the ongoing efforts of our local entrepreneurs are setting the stage for Colfax to once again be a destination people are proud to call home and eager to visit.

With federal allies like Congressman Kiley, strong local leadership, and the dedication of business owners and residents, Colfax is writing a new chapter—one filled with music, culture, and opportunity.

Now, we invite everyone to be part of this journey. Join us at the Rock the Vote Kickoff Concert on September 6, cast your vote in support of the Levitt AMP Grant from September 5–15, and help us bring world-class music and community pride to the heart of Colfax. And if you’d like to stay updated on all the exciting things happening downtown, be sure to subscribe to our monthly newsletter, All Aboard Colfax. It’s the best way to follow the progress, celebrate milestones, and discover upcoming events that keep our community moving forward.

Downtown Colfax CA historic Main Street with community gathering – lessons from Cracker Barrel logo backlash on why community voice matters.

5 Lessons Colfax, CA Can Learn From Cracker Barrel’s Logo Backlash

When Cracker Barrel unveiled a new logo this month, they likely thought they were moving the brand forward. But within days, the company faced a nationwide outcry from customers who felt the new look erased the tradition and heart they loved. The backlash was so strong that Cracker Barrel quickly announced they would revert to their original design.

It’s more than a story about a logo—it’s a reminder of how important it is to listen to the people you serve. And it’s a reminder for towns like Colfax, as we look toward the future of our historic downtown.

1. Listen First

Cracker Barrel’s mistake wasn’t just about the logo—it was about skipping the step of asking the people who matter most: their loyal community. For Colfax, listening first means seeking input before making decisions that shape our identity in Colfax CA.

2. Respect Our Roots

Modernization can be exciting, but it should never come at the expense of the character that makes a place special. Colfax’s history and heritage are our foundation; revitalization should honor that story while helping us grow into a community that represents the heart of our city.

3. Community Voice Matters

What changed the company’s mind wasn’t an internal decision—it was the collective voice of the people. In Colfax, too, progress is strongest when the community is actively involved. Our shared voice keeps us on the right path and is vital for our progress in Colfax CA.

4. Course Corrections Are Costly

When Cracker Barrel had to reverse course, it wasn’t just embarrassing—it was expensive. For us, making big changes without community input risks the same challenge: wasted time, wasted resources, and a community that feels left out, especially in a connected place like Colfax.

5. This Is OUR Colfax

At the end of the day, the future of Colfax belongs to the people who live here. Just like Cracker Barrel’s customers reminded the company who they serve, we as a community must continue to remind ourselves: this is our town, and together we shape its future in Colfax CA.

At the Historic Colfax Downtown Association, this lesson is central to everything we do. Our mission is to breathe new life into downtown Colfax by honoring its history, uplifting its people, and creating spaces where community can truly take root. But just as important as the projects we take on is how we approach them—by listening first.

We believe meaningful revitalization only happens when neighbors are connected, voices are valued, and every person feels like they are part of shaping Colfax’s future. Your feedback is not just welcome—it’s essential in our evolution as a city.

As we move forward, we are committed to bringing your voice to the forefront of every conversation about change in Colfax. Together, we can ensure that growth doesn’t erase our character, but instead strengthens it—transforming Colfax into a bustling, connected, and economically strong hub in Placer County, built on the stories and input of the people who call it home.

🌟 Be Part of Colfax’s Future 🌟

If you believe in a stronger, more connected, and more vibrant Colfax, we’d love for you to join us. At the Historic Colfax Downtown Association, we’re bringing neighbors together, honoring our history, and shaping a future that reflects the voices of our community.

Rock the Vote Colfax T-Shirt Image

Colfax is Ready to Rock: Our Community is Rallying for the Levitt AMP Grant

Something extraordinary is happening in Colfax. Out of hundreds of cities nationwide, our small mountain town has risen to the Top 100 in America for the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant — advancing to the final public voting round. It’s a remarkable achievement for a town our size, and we’re not stopping here.

From September 5–15, 2025, every vote will decide whether Colfax secures up to $120,000 in matched funding to bring 7–10 free concerts every summer for the next three years to our historic downtown. This is more than a chance for music — it’s a chance for transformation.

Why This Matters

The Levitt AMP Music Series is about more than putting on shows; it’s about sparking momentum. For Colfax, that momentum means:

  • Music under the stars for families, neighbors, and visitors.
  • Economic growth for our Main Street restaurants, shops, and businesses.
  • Civic pride that proves small towns can do big things.
  • Revitalization of a historic downtown with untapped potential.

The Power of Community

What makes Colfax special is our people. At our recent public workshop at Colfax City Hall, we filled the room with neighbors, business owners, and city leaders eager to brainstorm how we can win this grant. The energy was electric, and the ideas that came out of that session are already being put into motion.

One of the best ideas came from a community member who suggested turning our movement into a T-shirt. That idea has exploded — in just a few days, we’ve already sold over $500 in Rock the Vote Colfax T-shirts, with more orders coming in daily. These shirts are more than fabric and ink; they’re walking billboards, sparking conversations, spreading awareness, and reminding everyone that voting begins September 5th. You can pre-order yours here: 👉 Order Your Shirt »

Another idea we’ve put into action is restaurant outreach. Dozens of Colfax restaurants and businesses are now displaying Rock the Vote Colfax info stands on tables, counters, and storefronts. These plastic displays are already starting conversations over coffee, pizza, and family dinners — proof that awareness is spreading where it matters most. And we’re ready to expand this even further.

What’s Next

The coming weeks are critical. We have two more public workshops scheduled — August 26th and September 3rd — to finalize our community rollout plan for voting week. On September 6th, we’ll host our kickoff event in downtown Colfax with free live music to energize the community and remind everyone to vote.

From posters to QR codes, from T-shirts to table stands, from social media to grassroots word-of-mouth, we’re leaving no stone unturned. Colfax is organized, energized, and ready to show the country that we can compete with cities much larger than ours.

Join the Movement

This is our chance to prove what Colfax is made of. We’re not just a stop on the highway — we’re a community worth investing in, worth visiting, and worth remembering.

The first-ever Colfax Bazaar turned out to be more than just a market

Colfax Bazaar Recap – A Big Win for Downtown Colfax

The first-ever Colfax Bazaar turned out to be more than just a market—it was a celebration of history, community, and the promise of a bright future for downtown Colfax, CA. On Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Historic Fruit Exchange Building came alive with energy it hadn’t seen in over a decade, as more than 1,000 visitors strolled through a vibrant marketplace filled with antiques, oddities, handcrafted goods, and local flavor.

From sunrise to closing, the event drew shoppers, treasure hunters, collectors, and curious first-time visitors, all eager to explore this unique Gold Rush town and its hidden gems.

Many attendees commented that they had never been to Colfax before, and several left saying they would absolutely return. That’s exactly the kind of lasting impact this event aimed to create.

Breathing New Life Into a Historic Landmark

The Colfax Bazaar was created with a clear purpose: to bring fresh energy into downtown Colfax while honoring the town’s rich heritage. By hosting the event inside and around the Historic Fruit Exchange Building, we not only gave people a chance to shop, eat, and enjoy live music—we gave them a reason to step inside a landmark that has been part of Colfax’s story for over a century.

For years, the building saw minimal activity. But on Bazaar day, it was buzzing with conversation, laughter, and the sounds of live music drifting down Main Street. This wasn’t just an event—it was the embodiment of the Historic Colfax Downtown Association’s mission:

To breathe new life into downtown Colfax by honoring its history, uplifting its people, and creating spaces where community can truly take root.

20 Vendors, Unlimited Discoveries

The inaugural Colfax Bazaar featured 20 carefully selected vendors alongside the permanent tenants of the Fruit Exchange Building, creating a marketplace that blended old-world charm with modern creativity. Shoppers could browse:

  • Vintage furniture and home décor with authentic Gold Rush-era character
  • Handmade crafts and artisan goods inspired by rustic mountain living
  • Repurposed and upcycled treasures with a story to tell
  • Oddities and unique collectibles for those who love the unusual
  • Local art and photography capturing the spirit of Colfax and the Sierra foothills

Every booth offered something special—whether it was a one-of-a-kind conversation piece or a beautifully restored antique. And because vendors were handpicked, the quality and variety kept visitors engaged from start to finish.

Media Spotlight Brings Regional Attention

One of the standout moments of the day was our live feature on Good Day Sacramento with Cody Sparks. The Colfax Bazaar was showcased in four to five news segments throughout the morning, giving thousands of viewers across the Sacramento region a look at what makes our town special.

The exposure brought even more visitors, helped local vendors make sales, and put downtown Colfax on the map for people who may have never heard of it before. We are deeply grateful to Cody Sparks and the Good Day team for shining a spotlight on our efforts.

Why This Event Matters for Colfax

The Colfax Bazaar was about more than just buying and selling—it was about revitalization. For years, the Historic Fruit Exchange Building has been a reminder of Colfax’s past. On this day, it became a bridge to its future.

This event honored the grit and history of our Gold Rush roots while creating a space for connection, commerce, and community pride. It showed that Colfax can be a bustling, connected, and economically strong hub in Placer County without losing the character that makes it unique.

Through gatherings like this, we are not just preserving history—we are writing the next chapter of it.

Looking Ahead

The incredible response to our first Colfax Bazaar proved one thing—this event is here to stay. And the good news? You won’t have to wait long for the next one. Mark your calendar for Saturday, November 8, 2025, when we’ll return to the Historic Fruit Exchange Building with even more vendors, fresh finds, and new ways to experience the magic of historic downtown Colfax.

We’re planning a bigger, better lineup filled with antiques, oddities, handmade treasures, local flavors, and live entertainment that will keep you shopping, exploring, and connecting all day long. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning fan, you’ll find something new to love.

Don’t miss your chance to be part of the next chapter in Colfax’s story. Sign up now at TheColfaxBazaar.com to get updates, vendor announcements, and early bird entry details.
