Craftfolk is bringing something truly special to Historic Downtown Colfax this April. Oxford Certified Instructor Melissa Vorndran is leading a comprehensive two-day beginner workshop in the art of punch needle rug hooking — and spots are limited.
Whether you’ve never picked up a punch needle or you’re looking to refine your technique, this weekend workshop is designed to meet you right where you are.
A Two-Day Beginner Workshop with Melissa Vorndran
Over two relaxed morning sessions, Melissa will walk you through everything you need to know to complete a beautiful mug rug coaster from start to finish. You’ll choose from three original pattern designs created by Melissa herself, and she’ll guide you step-by-step through the techniques, tips, and creative decisions that bring each piece to life.
You won’t just learn the basics — you’ll leave with a finished project in hand and the confidence to tackle future punch needle work of any size.
What Is Punch Needle Rug Hooking?
Dating back to 1881, punch needle rug hooking uses a specialized needle tool to push loops of yarn through a stretched foundation fabric, creating richly textured designs. Often described as “painting with yarn,” it has surged in popularity in recent years for its simplicity, accessibility, and creative potential. It’s meditative, satisfying, and remarkably approachable — even for complete beginners.
