Goat Milk Soap: A Beginner’s Workshop in Colfax, CA

This event has ended

Interested in learning how to make handcrafted soap from scratch? Join the Goat Milk Soap: A Beginner’s Workshop at Craftfolk Collective on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 10am–Noon for a hands-on introduction to traditional soap making using nourishing raw goat milk.

This soap making workshop in Colfax, California is designed for beginners who are curious about creating their own natural skincare products. Participants will learn the fundamentals of soap making while working with raw goat milk, an ingredient known for producing a gentle, creamy lather that is especially kind to the skin.

During the workshop, students will be guided through the step-by-step process of creating goat milk soap from scratch. The class will cover the basic ingredients used in traditional soap making, how goat milk affects the final texture and qualities of soap, and the methods used to safely combine ingredients during the soap making process. Participants will also learn about curing, cutting, and caring for handmade soap once it has been made.

Each participant will make their own batch of soap during the class. By the end of the workshop, students will take home a full batch of approximately 10 bars of goat milk soap, scented with their personal choice of essential oils. Participants will also receive the tools needed to properly cure and cut their soap at home, allowing them to complete the process after the soap has finished setting.

The workshop is led by Sergio Navarro of The Astral Farm, who brings a diverse background in hands-on skills and traditional crafts. Growing up between Jalisco, Mexico and Northern California, Sergio developed a passion for practical, self-sufficiency skills including farming, blacksmithing, automotive work, and general building. Today he runs a small goat farm in Grass Valley with his wife and family, where he continues to explore traditional crafts connected to land and livestock.

In this workshop, Sergio shares his knowledge in a way that is both practical and approachable, making the craft of soap making accessible for beginners while highlighting the beauty of working with simple, natural ingredients.

All materials are provided and all skill levels are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring or wear a long-sleeve shirt for the class.
