Out of hundreds of cities nationwide, our small mountain town has risen to the Top 100 in America for the Levitt AMP Music Series Grant — advancing to the final public voting round. On Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Historic Fruit Exchange Building came alive with energy it hadn’t seen in over a decade, as more than 1,000 visitors strolled through a vibrant marketplace filled with antiques, oddities, handcrafted goods, and local flavor.

From sunrise to closing, the event drew shoppers, treasure hunters, collectors, and curious first-time visitors, all eager to explore this unique Gold Rush town and its hidden gems.

Many attendees commented that they had never been to Colfax before, and several left saying they would absolutely return. That’s exactly the kind of lasting impact this event aimed to create.

The Colfax Bazaar was created with a clear purpose: to bring fresh energy into downtown Colfax while honoring the town’s rich heritage. Starting May 15th, and running every Thursday evening from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Main Street in Downtown Colfax, this seasonal market isn’t just about fresh vegetables and handmade crafts (though you’ll find plenty of those!). It’s about creating meaningful economic opportunities that support local families, small business owners, and the long-term health of our community.

🏛️ Historic Preservation: Why It’s Time to Get Colfax Nationally Recognized

Colfax ca Downtown Revitalization Meeting - March 27 at Sierra Vista Community Center

Colfax’s historic buildings tell a story of Gold Rush resilience, railroad innovation, and small-town charm. However, only 17 buildings in Colfax are currently registered as historic sites.

We are working with historic preservation experts to:
📜 Expand Colfax’s recognition as a National Historic District, similar to Auburn and Grass Valley.
🏗️ Help building owners access grants and tax incentives for restoration projects.
💰 Encourage investors and businesses to revitalize historic properties without losing their charm.
