Downtown Colfax has a playful and creative printmaking workshop coming up this July — a beginner-friendly afternoon class that’s as much about exploration as it is about technique.

In this hands-on gel plate printing workshop, participants will learn the basics of layered textures, patterns, image transfers, and one-of-a-kind prints using a gel plate. Step-by-step guidance keeps things accessible for complete beginners, while the open-ended nature of gel printing leaves plenty of room to experiment, play, and surprise yourself with what you make.

No prior experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to get a little inky.

Every participant takes home a kit that includes a 5×7 gel plate and brayer tool, plus rubber carving blocks, a set of carving tools, an ink tray, baren, and paper — everything you need to keep printing long after class ends.

Whether you’re a first-time printmaker or simply looking for a creative afternoon in good company, this workshop is a wonderful way to spend a Saturday in Historic Downtown Colfax.
